Agricultural Biotechnology Network in Africa

The network is in collaboration with the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the African Biotechnology Stakeholders Forum (ABSF), and aims to supply information on biotechnology.  By connecting researchers, breeders, farmers, entrepreneurs, journalists, policy makers and donors, ABNETA supports those wanting to develop, discuss or use biotechnology.

Disaster Monitoring Constellation (DMC)

The Disaster Monitoring Constellation (DMC) is a small constellation of remote sensing satellites, built by UK-based Surrey Satellite Technology but individually owned by partner countries including Algeria, China, Nigeria and Turkey.

The DMC satellites provide daily coverage of the earth and were specifically designed to support the logistics of disaster relief. Each partner country gives five per cent of its capacity to free daily imaging of disaster areas for aid agencies. The group as a whole is also signed up to the International Charter for Space in Major Disasters.

Honey Bee Network

The Honey Bee Network collects knowledge and practices at a grassroots level and brings together creative and innovative farmers, mechanics, fishermen, women, etc. who have solved a problem without external help. Their aim is to connect one innovator with another through feedback, communication and networking. The Network is part of the Indian Society for Research and Initiatives for Sustainable Technologies and Institutions (SRISTI).

International Press Centre Biodiversity Research (IPCB)

The International Press Centre for Biodiversity Research, run by the European-funded ALTER-Net project, links to biodiversity research news and press releases from universities and research institutes. It runs a networking service to put journalists in touch with biodiversity researchers willing to answer questions and provide comment on biodiversity issues. It also highlights relevant events.

Sentinel Asia

Sentinel Asia, a project led by the Asia-Pacific Regional Space Agency Forum, provides a platform for promoting remote sensing data for disaster management and for sharing information on disasters in the Asia-Pacific region.

The project draws on data from a range of satellite sensors, including MODIS and AMSR-E among others, to distribute imagery and publish information on wildfires and floods as they occur. Sentinel Asia also offers training and coordinates emergency observation requests for a number of satellites.
